Awesome city building games

In contrast to understanding why I cannot love City Skylines, I somehow have trouble understanding what it is about Banished that makes it a much more enjoyable city building experience for me. The background to all of this is game development of course and my hope to one day feel experienced enough to bring my own vision of a city builder to life.
