You are going to have to remove the rear seat and hopefully reach that handle. Unfortunately I am reading that the way to remove the rear seat is through the trunk. I believe you are going to have to call a locksmith or get another key cut from the dealer. Even though you don't like the answer, doesn't mean it isn't the correct answer.

Listen really closely and see if you hear any kind of "clunk" or other noise when you press the trunk button. If you hear nothing then either the solenoid is defective or the BCM has an issue.
