The lipid transfer domain of LTPs is highly specific; often it can bind two different lipids allowing for lipid exchange to take place. Another important aspect of lipid biosynthesis is the side (leaflet) of the bilayer that the lipid is synthesised. Lipid synthesis often requires the movement of a lipid from one leaflet to the other.
